Hello Jean-Marc,
I do like staging Tylecodons and other plants on volcano rocks. I started with T. paniculatus and a few others and this fall I’m trying many others. I’m not sure how most species will like rock growing. But so far striatus, paniculatus, reticulatus, and leucothrix seem to do very well on rock. I’m going to do more but I need to get some smaller rocks. I also have very little room in the greenhouse so very small rocks making mame bonsai is what I’m going to try with the smaller species. I usually drill a small hole in the porous volcanic rock and then trim some of the roots and place the base in the hole with a few roots over the rock. Then a thin layer of wet soil and then I wrap the base of the plant and rock with tinfoil to keep the plant steady. By bottom watering the plant does not get too wet and soon the roots are anchored to the rock and then the tinfoil can be removed.
Good luck and let me know how it works for you.
Keep Growing,
Pete Liekkio
